Cold. That’s the weather outside. It was snowing, too, covering the city in a beautiful white blanket. Students sat in their warm classrooms staring impatiently at the clocks. Only one more minute until school was out and they could go home. Everyone was counting down in their heads.
Except one person.
A boy with tri-coloured hair was staring out the window, a frown on his face. He kept his gaze upon the lone form that was standing, unmoving, out in the snow. He could tell by the length of hair, that the person was a girl. But…why would someone willingly freeze to death? He had first noticed her sometimes in the beginning of class.
Suddenly the bell rang, but he didn’t move. He was still staring out at her. For some reason, he couldn’t look away.
“Hey, Yuge, class is over.”
He snapped from his stupor and looked up at his best friend.
“Joey? Who is that?” he asked, looking out the window again.
“That’s—”
“Gentlemen! Class is over! I suggest you get moving.”
The two quickly left the room. Once in the hallway, Joey sighed.
“That’s Davan Reynard.”
Yugi frowned. “Who?”
“Davan Reynard. She’s…pretty quiet. I’ve heard that her heart is even colder than Kaiba’s!”
“Joey,” Yugi sighed. “Seto doesn’t have a cold heart. He loves his brother Mokuba…”
“Alright, fine. But she still has a frozen heart.”
Yugi just shook his head. No one could have a heart that was completely frozen over.
Standing by yourself, you watched the snow fall. Sighing, you let the mask of frigid impassiveness slip off your features. It was replaced with a look of heart-wrenching sadness. The falling snow and freezing wind didn’t even penetrate the numb exterior you had grown into.
The cheerful voices of friends and couples reached your deafened ears, piercing and tearing your already broken soul. No matter how much you hated others being happy, you were really just jealous.
You had been standing out there for at least an hour, and not a single teacher had tried to get you back inside. You strongly doubted anyone had noticed. Why would they? You didn’t have any friends, and rarely spoke to anyone. Even at home, your foster parents pretty much ignored you.
Your chest tightened painfully, and you quickly held your breath until it passed. Letting out a heavy sigh, you pulled your huge coat tighter around your thin frame.
“Hey! Davan!”
It took you awhile to realize that someone had called your name. It was even longer before you saw the four people in front of you. You stared at them in surprise, before blinking. The cold mask easily slipped over your face again.
“Yeah?” you mumbled.
“I was wondering why you stood out here during last period.”
Your cold green eyes slowly landed on the shortest on in the group. His hair was three different colours and it stuck up so wildly you wondered how much gel he used. Then you remembered you didn’t care.
But why had he noticed you?
“How is that any of your business?” you asked monotonously.
Before he could answer, the only girl broke in. “Look here, Yugi was just wondering if you were ok! There’s no reason, nor do you have the right, to speak to him like that!” she sneered in a preppy sort of way
You raised an eyebrow at her, before looking at the Yugi person in mild amusement.
