A/N: I dunno where this came from…just happened. I haven’t watch Yu Yu Hakusho, or Inuyasha, much, so if facts and stuff are wrong…tell me, gently…and I’ll consider fixing it.
This chapter is shorter than my normal ones, and I’m sorry about that. I’ll make more and longer ones, as soon as possible. (At this moment, I’m already into the next chapter)
Disclaimer: I do not own YYH or Inuyasha…but I have stolen the male characters from both ^.^’
Pounding footsteps echoed through the rain, as they ran passed the dark archway you were hiding in. Smirking as the idiot soldiers passed and faded into the darkness, you shook your head. They’re getting more and more stupid every day, you thought.
Slipping out of the shadows, you easily scaled the stone wall up to the roof. The bundle strapped to your chest was silent the entire time, not that you were paying any attention to it. Your complex mind was only aware of three things: scents, sounds, and sights. Your silver, furry fox ears, tipped with black, flicked back and forth, trying to catch the sounds of more footsteps following you. The thinning amount of rooftops to jump to, and the nearing line of trees, told you that the city wall was the next thing you’d have to jump from, carefully.
“You better be worth this,” you hissed as you ran. The bundle didn’t reply except for silence. “They paid me with food here. Food, you hear me? I was paid with food, meat usually, to guard this gods-forsaken city. Now, I’m exiling myself for a halfling. I don’t even know why either. You’re not a normal halfling are you?” you muttered to the bundle, whose now standard reply was pure silence.
You found yourself at the top of the city wall. Suddenly the sounds of dogs barking split the silence, making the baby in the blankets move restlessly. You glared back at the city, protectively wrapped your arms around the bundle, and jumped. Landing on your feet, as always, you took tearing off into the forest. They have released the hounds, you thought bemusedly. Sesshomaru would have my head if I made that joke around him…I think. The thought of the prince confused your distracted mind, and you stopped paying attention to where you were going.
Sesshomaru, the dog demon prince. You sighed at the thought of the very good-looking demon. He acknowledged you in private, but in public…you were nothing more than a mere shadow, since he was a dog demon, and you just a fox. You had a crush on him when you were younger (even though you’re closer to Inuyasha’s age), but kept the feelings a secret for fear of him hating you. You shook your head, and suddenly stopped running, looking around.
The sound of the dogs’ barking was getting closer every second you stood there, but you didn’t really know where you were. Grumbling darkly to yourself at your bad luck, you quickly wove a confusing maze-like pattern through the surrounding trees, before jumping up into the higher branches of a huge cedar. Crouching on the balls of your feet on the sturdiest branch of the tree, you repositioned the bundle so that you could see the baby clearly.
The baby’s face was not extraordinarily different from human babies. He had a claw-like scratch under each eye that was a deep indigo-navy colour. A little behind his hair-line were two little stubs that would obviously become horns. That must’ve hurt like hell in the woman’s belly, you thought, smirking. The little boy’s eyes were red with a black slit for a pupil. He was extremely pale, and had the appearance of an albino.
“This will never, never do,” you muttered, knowing that you would have to escape into Ningenkai to avoid the city’s revenge for stealing the halfling.
Reaching into your pocket, you pulled out a bottle of blood-red liquid. Using your sharp teeth, you uncorked it and dipped your finger into the fluid, before letting drop off onto the baby’s lips. He opened his mouth and licked it off with a forked tongue. As soon as his mouth was open, you dropped a couple more drops of the liquid into his mouth, and waited.
The horns disappeared, and his eyes because a pale blue, the pupils round. He remained pale, but his ears became less pointed and his tongue human. You smirked in triumph that the potion (a mixture of plants and a little of your own blood) succeeded in turning him human before he was old enough to do it himself. You quickly corked the bottle and stuffed it back into the pocket you took it from.
Repositioning him once again, so he was fully covered, you leaned back against the trunk, and waited as the barking grew closer. About a dozen dogs burst into your chosen path, and instantly began tracing your “trail” only to become confused and lost. Suddenly a fox burst out of some bushes, and they took off after the poor little creature, the owners of the mutts thinking they were still on your trail.
You jumped from the branch, landing silently on the balls of your feet. Glancing down the way the fox had taken them, you sighed. “The gods be with you, little one.”
Sprinting, you found yourself drawing closer to the portal into Ningenkai. “Almost…there…” you muttered as you drew closer to it. You didn’t hesitate, instead plunging yourself into it, blinded instantly by a brilliant white light.
