“Hey, look, it’s the Egypt-loving freak.”
Half-heartedly groaning, you stopped trying to figure out the lock on your bike. You didn’t bother standing up, knowing you’ll soon be face first in the dirt covered with bruises. I just want to get home to see YuGiOh! Before the storm comes, you thought morbidly.
“Get it over with, Sara,” you muttered, glaring at the leader of the group of preps in front of you.
She narrowed her eyes at you and crossed her arms over the bulge of her stomach. You looked at her in disgust. She wasn’t pregnant, no, not at all. The bulge was pure fat, and it made you wonder why so many of her friends were skinny.
“You’re such a pregnant dog, Mariasha,” she sneered.
And you’re such a fat-ass, you mentally growled at her.
No matter how unpopular she should have been, she was the direct opposite. She had the numerous football jocks at her disposal, and so you knew to keep your mouth shut. Sure enough, out of the corner of your eyes, you saw two huge come up to you.
“Hullo, Michael, Alexander,” you said faking a cheerful tone. “Same thing today?”
“No,” Mike sneered. “We’re recruiting a rookie, so you know the drill.”
Sighing, you got onto all fours and pulled your long hair off your back so it wouldn’t get in the way. I hope I have enough stuff at home…and that his guy doesn’t knock me out like the last one. You shot a dark look at Alex, to which he just smirked at you.
“He’s late,” Sara whined, the tone riding on your already stress-heightened senses.
“Probably got lost. We should’ve given him clearer instructions,” Mike muttered.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed in the calm-before-the-storm, and you involuntarily flinched. d**n, you thought. I was hoping he wouldn’t show, too. Sighing, you glanced up and your eyes met his. The new guy? Doubt he’ll save me. Alex didn’t.
“Uh…what’s she doing here?” he asked, frowning in confusion.
“She’s your test,” Mike said shrugging.
“She’ll explain it to you,” Alex added.
You sighed and shifted back onto your knees. Instantly, a foot connected with your spine, pushing you back on all-fours. You winced.
“He gave you permission to speak, not to move…very *friendly* person,” Mike growled at you.
The new kid’s eyes widened in surprise, but he didn’t move.
“Basically…you beat me up,” you said softly, staring at his shoes. “The goal is to get me to bleed without passing out.”
The new kid just stared at you in surprise. When you lifted your head, you could see the disgust in his eyes. You sighed again as your feet began to fall asleep.
“You don’t have a choice,” you said softly.
He must have looked at one of the jocks, because you could hear Alex laughing.
“She’s right. If you don’t, I’ll make sure my uncle never lets you play,” Mike said.
You tensed awaiting the blow from the rookie. It never came. Instead, hands encircled your arms and picked you up to stand you on your feet. Your eyes widened in horror, staring up into the brown eyes of the new guy. He shouldn’t have done that.
“Do you know what you’re giving up, Matt? There are tons of hott chicks at this school; you’ll be giving it up for this ugly very *friendly* person. Also, you’ll be kicked off the football team.” Mike glared at you. “To fix that and keep your dignity, you just have to hit her. You don’t need to make her bleed. Alex did, but…” he trailed off shrugging.
“Just do it,” you whispered. “I want to go home.”
“I’m sorry. My dad’ll kill me of I get kicked off the team,” he muttered.
You just shrugged. Something connected with your skull and sent you to the ground. You saw double of everything for a couple minutes.
“Good job, bud!” Mike said, hitting Matt on the back in a friendly way. “Knew you had it in you.”
You waited for their voices to die down before standing and unlocking your bike. The rain started to pour as you rode home. Nearing your house, you saw that no cars were in the driveway. You sighed in defeat and walked your bike up the concrete.
Suddenly a purplish lighting bold hit a tree near the front door. Purple?! What the freak?! You dropped your bike and ran over to see if the tree had become mutated in some way. You read too many science fiction books.
As you drew closer to the smoldering tree, a shadowed figure appeared in your vision.
“Are you alright?” you asked, looking into the shadows for the mysterious person.
“Yes, I’m fine, stupid…thing,” the voice identified the person to be a male, and around your age.
He stepped out of the darkness. You gasped in shock when the light-blonde hair and violet eyes met yours. It was Malik from Yu-Gi-Oh! Your jaw dropped open.
“Malik!” you whispered.
He stared at you in surprise, before his eyes narrowed suspiciously. “Who are you? How do you know my name?”
You looked around nervously, before sighing. “Follow me.”
Not waiting for an answer, you started for your front door. Footsteps behind you alerted you to his following you. However, you pretty much ignored him.
“Please close the door behind you,” you said softly.
To your surprise, he did. He also shot you a small smile when you stared at him in disbelief. You just shook your head and walked into the living room, turning the TV on as soon as possible.
Then you flipped to the Channel and looked over at Malik.
The episode that was currently showing, one you’d seen many times, was in the last five minutes. Yalik(Yami Malik) was dueling Yami(Yugi). You looked between Yami on the screen, and the hikari who was frozen in shock, and winced.
You watched as it said ‘To Be Continued…’ and turned the TV off. You glanced at the cartoon-character-now-in-reality, and waited.
“How…?” he just trailed off and looked at you.
“I don’t know…” you sighed.
He sort of just leaned against the closest thing, which happened to be a wall. You watched as he slid down it to sit on the floor.
“I’m alone…” he muttered.
“Um, hello? I’m right here!” you said, sort of annoyed that even your favourite cartoon character made you invisible.
He just looked at you sadly. “I don’t even know your name.”
“It’s Mariasha,” you said, shrugging. “Before you start saying you have nowhere to stay, you can stay here.”
He just raised an eyebrow in surprise. “What about your parents?”
Half-heartedly groaning, you stopped trying to figure out the lock on your bike. You didn’t bother standing up, knowing you’ll soon be face first in the dirt covered with bruises. I just want to get home to see YuGiOh! Before the storm comes, you thought morbidly.
