You groan as sunlight bursts into your eyes and sit up in bed. Your movement and sound startles one of the house-elves in the room and she squeaks.
“Sorry, Mistress! Kingle didn’t mean to wake you up!” she squeaks in horror.
You smile gently at the poor creature; all of the house-elves are abused by your father. It’s one of his ways to vent.
“It’s alright, Kingle. I have to get up anyway. I go back to Hogwarts this morning, and father hates it when we’re late anywhere,” you say kindly, moving the covers to get out of bed.
Kingle smiles weakly and bows herself out of your room, her ears dragging on the ground every few steps.
You smile and make your way to your rather large desk, picking up the clothes your father must have told the elves to pick out for you. You sigh and hurry to put them on.
After making sure you’re fully ready to go, you quickly run down the stairs and into the dining room. Your father sits in his chair at the head of the extremely long chair, peacefully reading the paper. You ignore how much the scene makes your family seem so perfect, and quickly sit down.
“Morning, Father,” you say attentively, not knowing what mood he is in.
“You do not need to eat, we are leaving shortly. You can eat on the train,” he says, pausing in his reading to look down at you. “Not that you need it.”
You wince and look at your stomach. It isn’t the flattest you’ve ever seen, but it’s not like your fat.
“I suppose I should be grateful, however, now that you’re not going to eat me out of house and home again,” he says, smirking a little.
Sighing a little, you stand up and push the chair in. “Whatever you say father. How am I getting to the station?”
Your father narrows his eyes at you, “The way you always do.”
Forcing yourself not to groan, you turn and leave the room to go find your stuff. To your surprise, both Kingle and Jingle are standing next to your things, that are the size of apples.
“We shrunk them, Mistress!” Kingle squeaks nervously.
Jingle nods her head, her large ears flapping humorously. “Yes, it will be easier for Mistress to carry them through the big station now.”
You smile at their efforts, “Thank you so much! Now…how am I supposed to get them real size again?”
Kingle walks up to you and hands you a piece of paper. “Read this spell out loud, then point your finger at them, Mistress.”
“Thank you so much, you two!” you say, smiling happily at them.
The two house-elves smile back, bowing themselves out of your presence. You pick up the miniature trunk and put it in your pocket. You have no pet (cat, toad, owl), as your father had drowned your kitten the year before.
You shiver with the memory, along with other memories from last year, and hurry out the door.

Half an hour later, you stand on the platform of 9 ¾. Your trunk is on a trolley in front of you.
Upon arriving at the station, you had decided to un-shrink it so as to not appear suspicious to anyone. Doing exactly what Kingle had told you to do, you soon had your trunk, which you had then pushed passed the magical barrier.
Now you stand on your tiptoes, trying to find at least one of your friends.
“Dreams!”
You turn around to see Caroline sprinting towards you—well, as fast as one can sprint in pushing a trolley. You smile a true smile for the first time all summer.
“Hey!” you say, waiting for her to catch up to you. “I haven’t heard from you all summer.”
“Yeah,” she says, pausing to catch her breath. “We heard your father doesn’t like anyone who’s not in Slytherin so…”
You wince a little. “Yeah well…he wouldn’t know if it was by the Owl Service, now would he?”
She smiles at you, “You’ve been hanging around the Marauders way too much.”
“I’m dating one,” you say, smiling a little. Remembering the night before, it fades quickly. “I think…”
She stares at you, frowning a little bit. “What do you mean? Did Sirius dump you?” she asks.
“Sirius did what?!” someone screams from behind you.
Whirling around, you see a very furious looking red-head storming over to you. Her bright green eyes flash dangerously as she stops in front of you two.
“I don’t know for sure…I haven’t heard from him all summer…” you say sadly, sighing a little.
Suddenly you feel strong arms wrap around you, and you tense, thinking it’s a certain Slytherin you’re now engaged to.
“What did I do now, Lily?” says a masculine voice from behind you, sounding wary.
The arms turn you around until you are staring into the dark-brown-almost-black eyes of the one, and only, Sirius. He looks at you and smiles, making you weak in the knees, before frowning a little suspiciously.
“Who haven’t you heard from all summer, Dreams? Who’s this ‘he’ you speak of?”
“You, of course,” Lily snaps, still furious on your behalf.
Sirius frowns, then his eyes widen a little, before he smiles apologetically. He squeezes you tightly, and sighs. “Sorry ‘bout that Dreams. I ran away from home, and didn’t want my family to know I went…to the Potter’s” he says, whispering the last part.
You smile at him, mentally kicking yourself for thinking he cheated on you. “It’s alright, Sirius, I—”
“It is not alright, Dreams! He should’ve found a way to tell you anyway!” Lily screams from behind you.
“She’s a little mad James didn’t invite her anywhere this summer,” Sirius whispers, leaning down to kiss you.
Just as he’s about to touch your lips with his, you glimpse Regulus watching with a frown on his face. You turn your head just in time and receive the kiss on your cheek instead; the same one Regulus had kissed the night before.
Turning to look back at him, you see his eyes filled with confusion, and a hurt look is upon his face. It tears your heart, seeing the look on his face that used to be on yours everyday.
“I’m sorry,” you whisper into his ear. “I’ll explain later, I promise.”
He just nods at you and then unwraps his arms from around your waist. Instantly you miss it and you watch him walk away. You cross your arms and sigh, thoroughly depressed now.

“Is Sirius being a bastard?” drawls a cold voice from behind you.
Whirling around, you come face to face with none other than Lucius Malfoy. Surrounding him are various Slytherins from your year, and above. The only younger one is Regulus, who’s watching you coldly. You shiver and glance around. All of your friends are gone, including Lily and Caroline. Swallowing, you look back into the cold grey eyes staring at you.
“No,” you say quietly. Suddenly in a very bad mood, you snap, “So if you don’t have anything better to do Lucius, I would greatly appreciate you leaving me alone!”
Taken aback by your harsh, outgoing words, the Slytherin Prince glares at you. His eyes narrow before he stalks off. Turning away, you stare sadly at your heavy trunk. Once again, just like first year, you’re left trying to haul your own trunk onto the train.
“Would you like some help?” comes a quiet, low voice from beside you.
Looking out the corner of your eye, you see Severus Snape standing next to you, looking down at your trunk. What is it Sirius calls him? You sigh a little, thinking of him. Oh well, it is his fault that you’re left alone with the Slytherins.
“Yes, please, that would be wonderful,” you say warily, waiting for him to say “Well too bad” or something rude along those lines.
Instead, to your surprise, he points at your trunk with his wand, mutters a short levitation spell, and starts for one of the doors onto the train. It’s then that it hits you he’s in the same year as you and not allowed to use magic yet. Staring after him in shock, you don’t realize he’s waiting for you.
“What are you staring at Fuscienne?” he asks you suddenly, a small sneer on his face, though you can see worry in his eyes.
You start towards him, and, before you realize it’s out, you tell him, “Call me Cie, please Severus?”
He stares at you, startled. Everyone knows that only the Gryffindors in your year have a nickname for you, and here you are giving one to a Slytherin. He raises an eyebrow, expecting some kind of joke. Seeing there is none, he just nods, “Of course…Cie, now…what are you staring at?”
“We can’t do magic out of school yet,” you reply, following him onto the train.
“True, but we aren’t techniquely out of school, now are we?” he asks, a small smirk on his face.
You smile a little, finally seeing why Slytherins are known for their cleverness and deceit. It can’t be hard to lie if you can find a worm-hole in any little thing.
“What?” you ask startled at the strange look on his face.
“Why are you being so civil towards me? Aren’t you friends with the Marauders who are always tormenting me?” he asks quietly, searching your face.
You nod a little, “Yes, but, I always try to get them to stop when I catch them at it.”
“I see…” he says, trailing off.
It’s then that you notice the two of you are very close, and you feel your eyes widen. He seems to suddenly notice the same thing, for he clears his throat and breaks eye-contact with you, looking around.
“I believe this is where you’re going to be,” he mutters, staring at the ground before walking off.
“Thanks, Severus,” you call after him, before turning to the compartment.

You find everyone already in there, staring at you with expressions of mixed emotions. Sirius and James are staring at you in horror, with a little disgust. Lily and Caroline are staring at you with surprise. Peter’s asleep, so you have no idea what he would be staring at you with. Remus is the only one who doesn’t look very different; he’s just watching you, a small smile on his lips.
“What?!” you finally ask, exasperated by all the staring.
“What was that all about?” Sirius asks you quietly, carefully keeping emotions off his face.
“Well after you all left me alone,” you start angrily, “Lucius came up with a bunch of his Slytherin gangs and insulted you.” You glare pointedly at the black-haired idiot. “He left after I defended you. I then realized you were all gone, leaving me alone to haul that bloody trunk in here on my own, but Severus offered to do it for me, so I accepted. Is it a crime for another guy to help me if you don’t?” you finish, practically screaming at him.
Sirius just stares at you, his mouth hanging wide open. James, Lily, and Caroline are all shaking with silent laughter. Remus is looking from you, to Sirius, and back. You blink suddenly. Did he just wink at you?
After at least five minutes of standing there, you roll your eyes, and sit down in the empty seat on the left side of Remus. Instantly Sirius glares at him, because there is also an empty spot next to him as well. Apparently he figured you would want to sit next to him, but now you’re too angry.
“What’d he do now?” Remus suddenly asks you, startling you out of your glaring match with your boyfriend.
“He didn’t write to me all summer and then left me alone to be ganged up on by Slytherins,” you growl.
“Ah, I see…” he nods a little, glancing at his friend.
Suddenly you feel like you’re going to be sick and jump to your feet, running from the compartment. You barely make it to the bathroom before you empty your stomach of its non-existent breakfast. Instantly you freeze in horror, wondering what this could mean. Shaking your head a little at your paranoia, you wipe your forehead of the cool sweat, flush, and go back to sit in the seat next to Sirius, which just happens to be next to the window.
Resting your head on the cool glass, you ignore the curious glances you get from Lily, Caroline, and James. Sirius and Remus both look at you with concern, before noticing each other doing the same thing. Sirius glares at his best friend, who looks away and starts reading a book.
Sighing, you close your eyes and just relax. This year is going to be really long, and really hard. Of course, you’re life has always been hard, and you feel as if you’re sixty, instead of sixteen.
Opening your eyes, you feel a tear gently slide down your cheek. You wipe it away hastily before anyone sees. However, you aren’t fast enough.
Blue eyes notice the tear from over the pages of a book. A frown appears too, but the owner doesn’t say anything.
When the train finally arrives at Hogwarts, you can barely contain your relief. If you had had to go through another hour of Sirius’s judging stares, you were going to go insane.
Standing up, you stretch and yawn. Glancing down, you see a piece of paper with Sirius’s handwriting on it. Bending down, you pick it up.
It reads:
Something’s wrong. Something she’s not telling us. Do you know?
“Sirius? Why do you…” you trail off, noticing, once again, you’ve been left alone.
Some friends, you think sadly.

“You really need to find better friends, Cie,” says a familiar voice from behind you.
Turning, you see Severus standing there. You smile in thanks, but then frown at what he said.
“They’re just distracted and excited, that’s all. I mean, we did just get back to school. The feast is going to start pretty soon,” you say, trying to defend them all.
“But does that give them a reason to leave you alone?” he asks quietly, staring into your eyes.
“No…”
“Dreams?!” calls a voice with panic.
Looking at the door, you watch as Sirius sprints back into your compartment. He stops abruptly when he sees Severus standing next to you.
“What do you want, Snivelly?” he sneers, giving you an older impression of his brother Regulus.
You flinch visibly.
“I was going to escort her up to the castle, since you abandoned her,” the Slytherin replies calmly.
Sirius’s eyes narrow. “I did not abandon her, you filthy greaseball!” he shouts.
“It sure seemed that way,” Severus says, his voice rising a little.
“Sirius! Severus! Stop!” you shout above them both.
They turn to look at you in surprise; apparently you haven’t yelled in front of them before. You cross your arms and glare.
“Sirius, leave Sev alone, he was just being thoughtful. Sev, stop arguing back with Sirius.”
“Sev? Sev!?” Sirius shouts. “You have a pet name for him?! Maybe you should just date him, hm? You’re so good at keeping secrets, he’s so good at stealing them, you’ll be real great together!”
You step back from Sirius as if you’ve just been smacked. You feel your eyes fill with tears. Instantly a look of regret appears on his face.
“Dreams, I didn’t—”
Letting out a sob, you push passed the both of them and run off the train. Sirius glances at Severus, as if pleading him to tell him that he hasn’t just done that. Severus just stares at him coldly.
Sirius jumps into action, chasing after you. “Dreams!” he calls, threading his way through the crowd. “Dreams stop! I didn’t mean it!”
He gets to the front of the crowd just in time to see you get in one of the carriages with his brother and a couple other Slytherins.
You hear him as he calls you, sure enough, but your heart’s breaking too much for you to care. Once in the carriage, you glance over at Regulus, who’s glaring at you.
“He’s not part of my family anymore. He doesn’t know what happened. You have to tell him,” he says coldly.
You tear your eyes away from him, and look out the window, wishing the carriage moves faster.
The ride up to the steps has never seemed so long to you before. When the carriage finally rolls to a stop, you’re the first one off it, and are already sprinting up the steps when you hear Sirius call your nickname.
Ignoring him, you mix yourself in with a bunch of seventh year Gryffindors. Keeping your head down, you know he won’t be able to recognize you. For once you are grateful that you aren’t super tall.
Making your way into the Great Hall, you sit yourself down next to Remus, with Caroline on your other side.

James stares at you in surprise. “Where have you been? Where’s Sirius?”
You look at him with pain-filled eyes. “You all left me, again, on the Hogwarts Express. Sirius came back to find Severus talking to me, and they got in a fight,” you pause as tears fill your eyes. “In the end he said Severus and I…we would be great together.”
James opens his mouth, probably to yell at you for talking to “Snivellus”, but Lily elbows him sharply in the gut. A sob escapes you as you see Sirius enter the Great Hall, looking for you. You quickly turn away, knowing he sees you.
Remus moves closer to you to block Sirius from sitting down.
“Move, Moony. I need to talk to Dreams,” Sirius says quietly.
“Don’t you think you’ve done enough damage tonight, Padfoot?” he asks quietly, putting his hand on your back, gently rubbing in a circle.
You bend over, placing your forehead on the table, and sob. This has to be the worst day you’ve ever had at Hogwarts in the history of you being there. That’s including the time Sirius had turned you into a fox, not knowing how to turn you back. You had been stuck eating raw meat for three days while he made Remus look up the counter-curse.
Sirius looks around the table pleadingly, as if begging someone to make you forgive him. He meets only stares of disgust from Lily and Caroline, unbelief from James, and anger from Remus. Peter just looks plain confused.
Sighing dejectedly, he sits in an empty space on the other side of James, diagonal to you.
Even after you stop sobbing, sometime after Dumbledore’s “Beginning of the Year” speech, you avoid his gaze as much as possible.
On the way up to the Common Room that night, Remus keeps himself between the two of you, much to your relief. You hope you can get through the next year without being heartbroken again, but according to the look on Sirius’s face, as he watches you walk up to the dorm, you have a feeling it will be broken again the next day.
