Tearing the scimitar from the now-dead body, a figure dressed completely black wiped the blood off on it before the corpse hit the ground. In the person’s hand appeared a white rose. It slowly turned black, with light blue on the tips of the petals. Slowly, the person knelt, slipped the thorny flower into the dead soldier’s hand, and straightened up again.
You looked around at the carnage you created. It had been easy to kill them. After all their talk, they were just petty travelers on their way to ningenkai.
“Bakas,” you muttered. “They actually thought they could escape me. I’ve killed more people than their ages added together. They never had a chance.”
Suddenly a gust of wind scattered millions of petals identical to the rose around on the small clearing. It seemed as if the flowers were mourning for the dead, but that wasn’t it. Having set your “signature”, you smiled without mirth and disappeared leaving a patch of icicles where you had been standing.
“What do you want now, pacifier-breath?” Yusuke growled at a toddler who had a binky in his mouth.
“DON’T CALL ME THAT!” the baby yelled. “And I have a new mission for you.”
“ANOTHER ONE!?”
Koenma got a small sweat-drop. “Yes.”
“Baka, shut up and listen,” Hiei growled.
Everyone glanced over at the usually sullen fire demon in surprise. He had been even more sadistic and quiet recently. Kurama hadn’t even been able to get the information out of him as to why. If anyone could get it, it’d be the kitsune.
“Uh…thanks, Hiei,” Koenma said slowly as if still in shock.
“Hn.”
“Anyway! This is about a demon—“
“Oh the originality,” Yusuke muttered sarcastically.
“—it is known for being able to kill its opponents in seconds. He’s been going after murderers until recently. A source has told me his is after you all now.”
Everyone stared at him in surprise. Well, everyone except Hiei who was glaring at the floor. There was an uncomfortable silence as everyone pictured what this “invincible” demon looked like. Both Yusuke and Kuwabara gulped nervously.
Suddenly the door burst open as a girl with bright blue hair and a pink kimono rushed in.
“Mr. Koenma, sir, the demon’s attacked again! Closer, too!” she said, cheerfully. “This time I was able to get something. He left it as a form of signature.”
They all watched her, waiting. She didn’t make any other movements.
“Well?!” Yusuke asked.
“Oh!” she said. “Right.”
She ran up and placed something on Koenma’s desk. When she backed away, they all surged forward to see what it was. Even Hiei moved so he could see it. However, he suddenly wished he hadn’t.
On the desk, in all its glory, was a pure black rose with light blue on the tips of its petals. Hiei stared at it in shock.
“Silei…” he whispered.
Everyone turned and looked at him, but he didn’t care. He moved towards it a little before stopping. A scowl appeared on his face.
“Yusuke, touch it.”
“No way! It’ probably poisonous!” he exclaimed loudly.
Everyone sweat-dropped except Hiei who glared at him.
“You baka! If it was poisonous, we’d all be dead by now, and Botan definitely would not have brought it!” he growled.
Sighing, the gell-abuser reached out and put his finger on the stem. Seconds later, his hand snapped back and he let out a yelp.
“It bit me!”
“Actually, it appears to have given you a small case of frostbite. Enough to hurt, but not enough to do excess damage,” Kurama corrected, looking fairly interested.
Silence…then…
“Frostbite?! A stupid weed gave me frostbite?! I’m going to lose my hand! It’s so cold!”
Hiei growled impatiently at the teenager’s stupidity. Half-concentrating, he smirked and waited.
More silence…then…
“Ow! It burns! Hot! Hot! Hiei, stop it!” Yusuke shouted, shaking his hand as if trying to cool it off.
“Hn. Too cold, too hot. You’re weak, baka ningen.”
Still, Yusuke let out a sigh as the heat faded. Everyone looked at the temperamental fire demon expectantly. Most of them realized he had known about it.
“Wait…why didn’t it give Botan frostbite?” Yusuke asked.
