“Hiei…” you muttered in surprise.
The two of you stared at each other. You never thought you would see each other again. Hiei’s katana slowly lowered to sheathe itself.
“You two…know each other?”
You didn’t answer, still surprised that the one you were going to mate with, was standing in front of you as part of the present Reikai Tentai.
“You…joined them?” you asked incredulously.
Hiei blinked. “I thought I’d never see you again.”
“So you joined the ones who tore us apart?!”
“I tried to kill them first,” he said, his red eyes pleading with you to believe him.
“Hn.”
“Wow! It’s a female Hiei!” Yusuke said loudly.
You glared at him. “I have no qualms with you yet, ningen. I will soon enough.”
Yusuke swallowed hard, but glared. “Your stupid weed gave me frostbite.”
Your eyes flashed dangerously, but a hand clamped down on your arm before you could move. You blinked and looked at the owner of the hand. Red eyes stared back at you sadly.
“Let go, Hiei,” you growled.
“I won’t let my mate kill a Spirit Detective, only to lose her again,” he said softly.
Everyone gasped, especially Yusuke. You ignored it.
You stared at him. “We aren’t mates,” you said coldly.
Hiei let out a hiss of pain, as if you had stabbed him, literally, through the heart. His eyes darkened with sadness, and a tear slid down his cheek to become a crystal. You caught it before it fell to the ground.
“We aren’t mates,” you said again and he flinched. “Hiei…we aren’t mates because of their predecessors!”
“We don’t know what you are talking about.”
You looked over at a red-haired, green-eyed teenager that was way taller than you were. You studied him for a minute, before smirking.
“Hello, Youko.”
This time, even Hiei stared at you in surprise. However, in a flash of light, the silver kitsune appeared. He was returning your smirk.
“Hello Silei. I see you’re just as beautiful as ever,” he said huskily.
“Fox…” Hiei growled in warning, already over-protective again.
Instead of backing off, Youko laughed. “Was he always like that?”
You nodded. “Mostly around mating season, though. Like now.”
Hiei looked at you. “Silei!”
“What?” you asked innocently, smirking flirtatiously anyway.
He just sighed and glared at Kuwabara and Yusuke. The two teenage humans looked uneasy.
“You took over the body of a ningen?” you asked Youko.
He nodded. “Instead of dying, yes. We share it, actually.
“Poor kid. Imagine being a six-year-old with a hentai kitsune in your head,” you mused.
Hiei snorted and looked at you, while Youko was growling. “I didn’t do anything!”
“I feel even sorrier for the kid’s baby-sitters. You probably tried to grope them with tiny little hands,” you said, smirking now.
His growling got louder and more threatening, only to be rivaled with Hiei’s. You looked amused again, as the two demons had a growling-war in your honour. It was more than amusing, actually. It was down-right funny.
It also lasted for a few minutes, before you got tired of it.
“You guys? Stop.”
They stopped instantly, which made you smirk with the feeling of power. Until, you remembered why they were here. Your smile faded into an impassive mask.
“So when are we going to see Koenma?” you asked bitterly.
All four of them stared at you in shock. Youko was so surprised he turned back into Kurama, who was also in shock. Hiei was staring at you in surprise, before it turned sad when he realized what Koenma would do to you.
“Silei…” he said softly.
You just shook your head. “Save it, Hiei. I could escape from the others, because they weren’t expecting it. You four are…besides,” you added looking pointedly at your once-upon-a-time mate, “you know me…”
He remained silent, staring at you sadly. You returned the gaze, before looking at Kurama. You were unconsciously ignoring the ningens, but it was either that or kill them.
“So, shall we go get my death sentence?” you asked Kurama, knowing Hiei was growing protective again because of the mating season being there.
Kurama just nodded slowly and started to walk away. Yusuke and Kuwabara moved to stand guard over you, but Hiei growled at them.
“I will guard her,” he said coldly.
“You can’t, Hiei,” Kurama said softly. “You will let her escape.”
Before Hiei could jump on the fox-demon, you shook your head. “I’m not going anywhere.”
Hiei stared at you in sad surprise, before frowning and looking away. “Hn.”
You rolled your eyes at him, before following Kurama. Yusuke and Kuwabara looked at each other in confusion, not really knowing what they were supposed to do if Hiei was going to guard you, but he wasn’t supposed to. Being the ningen bakas they were, the simple conclusion eluded them easily.
Hiei followed silently behind you, staring at your back. You knew he was being forced to relive memories, because you were experiencing the same thing. You felt the presence of the two ningens place themselves on your right and left, and tensed with the urge to kill them both.
Don’t, Silei.
You smiled sadly. I have missed these conversations.
I have, too, he said telepathically, sounding sad. Why won’t you try and run? You could escape and live happily.
You shook your head slightly, knowing he would see. I would never be happy knowing you were out there and I could have been with you.
He’s going to kill you, Silei! I don’t want to lose you again.
You looked over your shoulder at him and smiled sadly. You won’t, ok? You’ll see. Everything’ll work out in the end.
Dam.n you and your optimism. He growled loudly.
You smiled a little. So what happened between you and Sakura?
His growl grew so loud, Yusuke and Kuwabara looked back at him in fear that he was going to attack them and run off with you. He snorted at their stupidity.
Nothing. The onna got a mate after the first time I told her clearly that she got on my nerves. The baka.[/b]
You sighed a little. You should have been with her. She would have made you happy.
