When you finally woke up, Tsume was still asleep. Sighing at the fact you needed to re-bandage him, you became human. Yawning, you called over to the grey wolf’s side, and gently shook him. He growled in his sleep, but sad nothing. This time you growled.
“Tsume, wake up!” you said, shoving the overgrown mutt.
He woke up with a snort, seeing it was you who had woken him up so rudely, he bared his teeth and growled.
“Oh, get over yourself,” you growled back at him.
He blinked in surprise, tilting his head a little. You shot him an annoyed glare.
“I need to change your bandages. You can either stay a wolf, and better not bite me, or you can be human and not smack me,” you said calmly.
His eyes widened a little, and suddenly his white-haired, leather-clad self was sitting there. You felt your own eyes widen slightly. You hadn’t noticed how sexy he was in all that leather. Sexy? What the…? Something is seriously wrong with me!
“Yeah, ok. Take off the jacket, smart one,” you said monotonously, trying to cover up the awkward feelings rushing through you.
He just grunted and did as he was told. You forced yourself to focus on the job ahead, not the body you were working on. It worked.
Grimacing as you pulled the last bloody bandage off him, you stared in surprise at his back. It had healed a great deal, that was true. But it was also rippling with muscles.
“Is something wrong?”
You blinked. “Oh, um, no! It’s pretty much healed, really.”
You moved around to the front of him to inspect the bullet wound. It wasn’t as healed as his back, but it was noticeably better. The other cuts around it were also fairly healed.
“You seem to heal fast, and there aren’t any infections.” You reached to the left for the other, new bandages. “However, the bullet wound isn’t fully healed and you’re still going to be weak from all the blood you lost. So you still can’t move around.”
He growled, but you ignored him as you quickly, but deftly, bandaged him back up.
“Oh please,” you said as you finish the job. “It’s not that bad.”
He just growled at you. You raised an eyebrow and gently poked him in the stomach.
“What? Afraid you’ll get fat?” you teased, smirking.
He snarled at you, but you could still see the amusement in his eyes. You grinned and got up only to skip over to the ladder.
“Hey! Where do you think you’re going?” he barked out, obviously angry and jealous.
You sighed and gave him a look. “First of all, to find your friends…and second of all, to see if I can find a map.”
He just stared at you for a minute. “A map for what? And what about food?”
“There’s food in there” you point to another bag in the corner. “It’s human food. Um…and a map for where I shall head for next.”
“You’re that sick of me already?” he asked, for some reason sounding hurt to you.
You shook your head. “I figured that when you reunite with your pack, you’ll leave.”
Before he could respond, you quickly slid down the ladder. As your feet landed hard on the ground, you winced realizing you would soon be alone again. Was that your curse? To wander the world alone, never knowing the meaning of ‘home sweet home’? It sure seemed that way. You had been wandering in a daze for the past nine years, kicked out of your pack. Alone in the world.
Unwanted.
A freak.
A lone tear slowly made its way down your sun-tanned cheek but you completely ignored it. Why should you care about anyone, when no one cared about you? It wasn’t like you expected Tsume to stay with you forever.
I told you he would only hurt you, said that annoyingly always right voice in your head.
You growled low in your throat, and pushed it away. You knew the voice was right, but you really didn’t want to think about it.
Staring off into the already setting sun, you let yourself fall back into memories as you completely forgot about the wolf back at your temporary camp.
“Tsume, wake up!” you said, shoving the overgrown mutt.
